The Best Airbox Mod? writeup with pics..
That mod sure did help the sound of the turbo, I love being able to hear it. BTW nice Jeep, how long have you been wheelin'? I heard Jeeps are the way to go if you're going to get into that sort of thing. But I guess this conversation is better suited for another thread. I heard Pirate 4X4 is a good forum for 4 wheel drives have you ever been there?
don't get me wrong the mod looks good but you increased the size of the hole in the airbox also the inner wheel arch is the best place to draw air unless you have fitted a feed pipe to it from the front of the car ( the best place for air intake ), basically that's the same mod as drilling holes in the lower airbox the way its been done and will create more sucking noise ( not a bad sound though ) some do it just for that effect like the vauxhall peeps unfortunately it reduces air pressure because of the larger hole, end result is more torque bottom end and less top end same as removing the res box on the intake and fitting a 3" pipe in its place when 2" pipe would give better top end results, enlarging the air scoop at the front end but keeping the feed pipe to the airbox stock size would probably show better results just my opinion though

basically it probably the worst mod you can do, the drilled holes suck big time

I may not have Dyno #'s to prove this mod is worth while but it seems alot of peeps are enjoying it
when I said suck big time I meant the noise not the mod
from my last post it should have said ( inner wheel arch isn't the best place to draw air )
the mod is well known with many cars and I agree people do like the noise it gives but its worth knowing the good and bad sides to it ( you did a good job on it ) no doubting that

SO.. I WENT O AUTOZONE AND MY CARS RUNNING TO LEAN THE CELL JUST CAME ON OFTER THE AIRBOX MOD SO WUT DO YOU THINK IT WILL TAKE TO BALANCE THE AIR/FUEL ? I THOUGHT A CHIP WOULD HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THAT BUT THATS JUST ME ANY IDEAS?
chip sounds a good start since there is more air then there's injectors/ performance fuel pump - filter/ regulator valve 4 bar+/ fit an air hose from that hole in the wheel arch from the front of the bumper to get colder air, many things you can do
Just for any people trying to decide wether or not to do the airbox mod, maybe this will influence your decision. I have a pretty much stock 01 a4. all i have is a forge diverter vavle and then i did the airbox mod. it made my car sound so much better. the turbo spools louder, the car actually has a nice growl to it now, and it even blows off a little for me. The mod did almost nothing for performance but the mod is well worth doing just for the sound. I strongly suggest doing this. it took me about an hour and i was done. ive been wondering how to make my car blow off, and with a diverter and this mod you should blow off. it sounds pretty nice for an almost stock audi. thanks for the mod man

I am making a piece of metal fitted to take the place of the screen that is being used to block debris (in between box and fender). for those who cant afford a spare box this will turn your box back to OEM by blocking the holes in the fender. It will be good to use in the summer months to prevent heat soak. PM me if you are interested in one of these and i'll make one for you.
