My dad used to have an 88 5000s automatic, i used to rev it up to 4k in neutral in the school parking lot and drop it into D all the time and it never broke. That car was a tank with some pretty good power and i loved it.. Great car for its time. I was always so confused because it said "VW' on the engine.. hhaha.
dont forget its usually what the clutch itself cost to get it installed, its like at least an 8 hour job. i got quoted at like 680 for a stage II install. if youre going to do it yourself then by all means dont worry about burnin your stock clutch, its just gonna get expensive. be sure to be prepared for a very tough DIY if you go that route.
