Default Buying a A4 in a while need some help

Well after my honda got stolen then i found it torched I have come to the conclusion that I will never buy another honda. So Im looking to upgrade to something nicer. I found a 99 A4 75k miles, quatro, manual 4 drs and turbo. Pretty much everything I like, according to the add its well maintained. So Ima go take a look at it this afternoon. Ive been lurking this forum for a few weeksI am aware of the TB issue and Ive got the page on germanpartsonline.com bookmarked to where the kit is that includes a new belt, tensioner, tensioning roller. it says also required is a Timing Belt Roller. where in this site can i find one? In addition to that I will be getting the water pump cam and crank seals and belts replaced. I am wondering when I go look at this car what else to look for so and what else will i have to work on to make this car as problem free as a i can.

Lol, once you own your audi for a while, you'll realize what good fortune this was!

Look for worn control arms, tie-rod ends, cv joint, wheel bearings. Also give the electronics a good workover, and make sure you get in a long test-drive. If it has service records, that always a huge plus. do TB kit right away, and you should be running a long time.

buy the ultimate kit from ECS - its a very easy job - biggest thing is getting the damn bumper off. Did mine a few weeks ago - took about 10 hrs with just me. Sounds like a good deal - find out if its early model or late model(99.5). Make sure you have a couple extra grand ready when you start to modify it.

Look for engine oil sludge. As they previously said, control arms, tie rod ends
and noisy wheel bearings.

Well I went and took a look at it. Looks like its in good overall condition. Turned the wheel from lock to lock and found both front CV boots ripped, tie rods are okay suspension feels sound, took a look at the oil, it was dark but did not feel gritty or smell burnt, the key looks to be in good condition it has a switchblade type unit the battery in it is dead. all the electronics work, inside the interior is in good contition for the mileage it has, little things inside bugged me on the left side where the fuse block is that little panel is loose, the arm rest is a little loose. Thats the bulk of it. They want 7880 for it and has about 78k miles on it. After I looked it all over I told the guy there has to be room for negotioation and he agreed. Im going to weigh some options, bring a friend to look it over againand if things go well ill get a 7k loan from the bank and give him that offer. sounds fair to me for what the car has wrong with it.

where can i get that ultimate kit? Im still trying to get the lingo down. Got to get my head out of the jdm scene and get with something more..........more.

Well, whats the book on it?

Id do like this.......

you're asking 7800, but it needs a t-belt, so -1000
plus the few minor details such as key needing battery, etc, plus you're so nice to take it off his hands......offer 6k or so and go up from there, try to get it for 6500 or so. Less if you can.
Im too lazy to look up book, if book is lower than 7800, take off at least a thou for the t-belt, and 300 or more for the cv boots.

When negotiating, always start way lower than you are willing to pay, so you have room to go up.

Well, they dont know you are going to do it yourself.
When I bought mine, I did the same thing, I told them, hey, its gonna cost me 1000-1200 to get the t-belt done, and used that to negotiate. Of course, I did it myself for around 350, but they didn't need to know that!

Im seeing around 8300 on that one at kbb, of course it varies alot depending on options, but that should be close.
Try and get it for 7 or less, and you got a good deal. use the t-belt and cv boots as bargaining chips, because that is work that needs done, so it does bring down the value of the car.

Good luck! Start way low, and go up, you can do it, you'll be amazed, especially if the guy is really trying to get rid of it.
