Default Buying a Used TT

I am looking at buying a used TT - any advice? Years to avoid? I would like to stay under 20K. Just want something fun and distinctive to drive everyday. Have owned several audis, no TT. Thanks.

Well, pretty much any Mk.I TT will fall under $20K. Mk.I's are what most of us know here... not many Mk.II owners around.

If you go for the Mk.I, just make sure the timing belt is addressed @ 60K miles. That includes water pump, and timing belt tensioner. Originals were prone to failure which results in trashing the head.

adding to what has been said, glove box latch/handle is a weak point. may want to check those because they are pricey to replace, but there are a few DIY fixes out there. Get it looked at from a shop, or somewhere you can get under it. I had been looking for about a year before i came across mine, test drove at least a dozen of them, and i would say 5-6 had been wrecked and never came up on the all mighty carfax. something that might be useful is looking to drive somewhere to get one. I drove from Cincy to Detroit bout 5 hr drive roughly just to look and than buy mine. Where you from ? I know of one that is rather bad *** in the Cincy area if he still has it for sale.

I'm selling my 2002 TT225Q (Moro Blue) with 65,000 miles (original owner). Timing belt and water pump replaced at 50K. All service completed at 60K and has never been damaged or dinged. Installed new Stop Tech oversized front brakes (calipers and slotted rotors) at 45k miles. Rear OEM shocks and springs replaced at 60K miles. Currently riding on new Bridgestone Blizzak LM 25V 205/50 snow tires. I'm asking $13,500.

If you owned other audi's, you well enjoy the TT. Fun little car. Not the most reliable, but if you owned audis, you know what Im talking about. Really 2001 to 2006 were the same. In your price range I would look into 2003-2004 VR6 TT. The VR6 was intoduced in the tt around 2003 with no changes until 2007 or so.

Otherwise, $20k is kinda of an odd price... $10k would get you an awesome 2002-ish 225hp and $20k would be the same 225hp (but maybe an 05 or 06). I would either look into a vr6 tt model (250hp stock) or prehaps even two cars (a $10k TT and something else??)
