ATW enginecoil packs never go bad. We are just lucky like that [8D] 2000+ dont have ICM's either, so we are sitting pretty as far as ignition components go.

OH BOY. I just put in my speedtuning chippedecu tonight. The car runs fine and never had coil pack problems so I have never replaced them. But mine is a 2000 B5, so are mycoil packs any better? I just don't want to havethis problem happening to me when I'm driving to or from work this week. Idid a quick testdrive, but didn't really push the car because it was snowingout and I didn't get out to the highway. The chip does definitely give more power...but I'mgoing to keep the 8mmwrench and stock ecu in my car just in case...althoughthat won't fix a bad coilpack, icmor crank sensor... good luck apr_a4 and let me know what happens.

Sounds scary.... Is he vw/audi certified? Most non Audi certified mechanics pee their pants a little when they seean Audi roll up that doesnt need a tire plugged.

I have an 06 A4 Avant 3.2Q 6M. Every once in a while when I crank the car the EPC light and traction control light light comes on and there is no power. I took it to the dealer and he said no codes, and since it only happens every once in a while it'll be hard to track down. He said he "reset" everything and maybe that'll take care of it. Well, 2 days later the same thing happened... started the car at lunch, EPC light, no power. I just turn it off and then restart and everything is fine.
Any ideas?

I had the same exact thing happen to me a couple days ago. It was frigid out (about zero degrees) when I came out to my car in the morning. Started it up, EPC and CEL came on and then it goes into limp mode. After I let it idle for quite awhile and warm up, turn it off, restart, all is good. Drove about 15 minutes to work without anymore problems (CEL did stay on steady). Cruised over to autozone at lunch (started fine this time, no limp mode, no EPC, CEL stayed on steady) and had them pull the codes: P2101, Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit, Range/Performance. I also performed a Throttle Body Adjustment (TBA) (turn the car on, but don't start it, hold the gas pedal to the floor for 5 seconds, turn the car off, take your foot off the gas, leave the key in the ignition the whole time, wait about 2-3 minutes for a full adjustment) at lunch, not sure if that helped or not. There isn't much history on this on this code in the forums (searched audiforums, audiworld, audizine..) but I did find this on AudiWorld.
Basically, after work that same day, the CEL went out (didn't clear the codes or anything) and it hasn't come back on. I think my issue was directly related to the cold weather I was experiencing. You could try a TBA, or else you might be looking at a new throttle body if you continue to get the errors, not sure though.

Also, read this
check 1) engine speed sensor 2) throttle position sensor - turn key to 2nd ( dash lights) press accelerator 10 times and take key out and start car, if it fixes problem then its that if it doesnt 3) if it was raining during this trip you wiring harness could have an exposed wire and it short circuited and freaked your ecu, as much as i've read up on it its usually 1 or 2 and rarely 3
