Default Clutch help please.

I live in florida and yesterday it rained 4+ inches, as a result my neighborhood
flooded like it always does except it was extremely bad this time. Since my a4
is lowered i was afraid that somethign would happen. I took my best route and still
got to much water on my car for my liking. Well i woke up this morning and my car
started like normal but i pushed in the clutch and i couldnt get it into any of the gears.
My neighbor said that the flywheel and the clutch welded together as a result of the water
and heat, and that starting the car in gear and using the starter motor was the best
choice to try and salvage the clutch. But what should i do, the clutch was already
out the door, and is this my problem.

The clutch and the flywheel rusted together? That doesn't sound right to me. If they were really rusted together, would you be able to push the clutch pedal in? I wouldn't try to start the car in gear either.

Can you get the car into gear when the car is off?

I don't know about Audi's, but I've had that happen on cars that I've stored before. The clutch sticks to the flywheel. With the car off, I push in the clutch, have someone push the car to get it rolling, and jam it into gear. That has always broken the clutch from the flywheel. That way you're not putting undue strain on the drivetrain. If that doesn't work, you're clutch is not fused to the flywheel.

Like I said, I've had this happen on older, non-Audis. I'm not sure if this trick will work this time, but if that's your problem, it should.

mkunert, it seems like it would work, but what do you think about putting the
car in gear before starting and using the starter motor to break the lock??
My neighbor says thats the least damaging way yet may still damage the
starter if I was to hard on it.

You could try that, but it probably doesn't have enough torque to break it free, and I'd be afraid of burning it out/breaking teeth off the starter or flywheel. Give the starter a little bump, and see if it works. If it doesn't work immediately, try the other method.
