Default Cold engine in the AM

Hey guys, have a quick question. It's getting down to about 40 degrees at night here and when the I got out to start my 2.8 in the morning, everything starts fine, but the water temp guage takes forever to get up to where usually sits, can't remember what exactly the temp is, but it usually just sits right in the middle of the guage. I usually let the car warm up a couple minutes and then go, but I usually have to run the thing for at least 15 minutes to get the water and oil temp up to operating levels. Problem is, I only have a 5 minute drive to school. So is it okay to shut it down even though the engine didn't reach operating temp? Thanks.

you should just drive at normal ranges right away.. letting your car "warm" up is terrible for it
