Default Coolant Problem

Hey guys, Im new to the fourm and just bought my 98 Audi A4. When I turn the car on the coolant temperature guage reads all the way to the left resting on C. I check the levels and it was fine and noticed after about running the car for 10 minutes the needle went up 1 notch but not close to the middle reading. Is this a big problem I should be concerned with? Further more, is there any way to fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Default RE: Coolant Problem

When the engine is cool, the temperature gauge is supposed to rest all the way to the left on C, so you are fine there.

10 minutes of idle doesn't really tell you anything. Go drive the car around for 20 to 30 minutes and see what happens. The guage should read around the center of the guage after a few minutes of driving and def after 20 minutes of driving.

If your temp still does not hit the center of the guage, is the fan running all the time?

If not, possible a bad thermostat. If the thermostat is bad, it may be stuck partially open (which is better than stuck closed because that would cause you to overheat). Running a little cool isn't BAD for the car, but you would def want to get it fixed.
