IS E10 @ 89 OCTANE ACTUALLY BETTER?
Hey all,
So I filled up at a McEwen yesterday and they have their Ethanol blend which is 10% Ethanol and 90% gas so I tried it. Well I don't know about everyone else but even though it's rated at 89 Octane, the car seemed to run better and smoother than the designer Shell V power 91(which I think is total BULLSHIT) and Sunoco 94. Obviously I didn't go out to a tune shop and dyno the car so I have no concrete proof of all this but I do know how my car runs and all I'm saying is it "seemed" to run better. Has anyone else had the same experience with E10???

Thats all thats used in many areas for emmisions reasons. Not necessarly E10, but up to 10 percent ethanol. Usually in the 3-7 range. You will get less power from e10. It contains less energy than gasoline per gallon. It also reduces fuel economy. Burns cleaner thou.

I thought E10 meant 10% Ethanol.... OK well let me rephrase. Right next to the nozzle that I used it said 10% Ethanol blend.
I also read somewhere here that mixing your gas every now and then was a great way to clean out your engine for example, fill 25% with E85 (85% Ethanol blend) and the rest of your tank with 91Octane and it will work wonders.... Not sure about the mix ratio but I remember reading it here.

Did i talk over your head or something? Ethenolhas a116octane rating and the total octane rating of the gas you put in probably was low 90's 91-92octane. Mixing to much e85 with premium would max out the stock injectors and be a very bad thing. You need 50% more e85 to remain stoich as 93 octane gas.

Cicncy,
You ARE talking Chinese to me right now because one minute you're telling me that mixing too much E85 is VERY VERY bad and the next you're telling me that I need 50% MORE E85 to remain "stoich"?? as 93 octane gas???Sorry but I'm confused lol....

Ok, stoich is basically a given a/f ratio (sort of). To keep it at the same a/f, you need 50% more e85 than 93oct. This is why you get lower mpg with it. This is also why you need much larger injectors. You add to much e85 and you go from a comfortable 80something % duty cycle (amount of time your injectors are open) to 100% which isnt good, low 90's is to much. You can use e85, but dont add in more than 20-25% and you HAVE to have a 01+ that comes with a stock wbo2.
