We need more information than that to help you. Did the squealing occur when you were turning? Was it at low speeds? Could be low power steering fluid. Could be timing/accessory belt going bad, or it could be a wheel bearing.

yes - more info about when you hear it. Right after startup, when you turn the wheels, etc? How loud is it?

I have a similar issue. My engine started makin this high pitched noise about a week ago. It happens when I lift my foot off the accelerator and the RPMs drop down. Doesn't really matter how high the rmps are..just the slow down of the engine causes it. I tried to pin point where it was coming from and it sounded like middle of the engine compartment right infront of the firewall...so I don't think its the turbo or the DV makin the sound..but my ears could be tricking me..

The volume is audible over the engine dropping in RPMs enough to hear it faintly while driving. I actually thought it was coming from the rear right wheel..but I had my friend stick his head out the window tonight to check where it was. We proceeded to check after stopping the car and popping the hood.

Any idea?

there is a cam timeing chain in the middle rear of the engine. if it coming from the back of the engine thats not good. it means its inside the engine or its some control inside the cabin.

Could be your accessory belt or timing belt getting ready to go? I'd have it looked at, that's pretty serious stuff.
