Default fan clutch vs. electric???

hello i just bought an a4 2.8QM about two months ago and the fan clutch has gone out. I live in a dessert climate where its hot from march to aug or sept. I have been thinking about putting in an electric fan, but I was told it would never keep up. does any body have one that can tell me the pros and cons??? or if it indeed cant keep up?

thaks in advance

why wouldnt it keep up? its going to spin roughly the same RPMs as your clutch fan i believe.. just make sure you get a decent size one

i dont know why he sais it wouldnt the only reason i came up with was the guy i askes was an asst manager in the audi service dept. he prob wanted me to spend the money on oem stuff. He told me it would take along time to diagnose the prob. however i did it in two minutes with a screw driver. I was thinking about getting the fan from EVO Motorsports is that a good product???

EVO is a good company and i would think anything they sell would work greta. They are in AZ so u should call or email them and see what they say about it keeping up. Tell me how it works out, i was thinking of doing it to egt some hp.

How much hp could you possibly get out of a fan kit and how?

Clutch fan uses your engine's power to drive the fan. Imagine trying to run with a big parachute on your back, that is about what 5 fan blades trying to move air out of their way at 3000 rev per min. Quite a bit of horsepower to get that fan out of there and go to electric.

If you are really worried about not keeping up, my neck of the woods has been 110 for the last 3+ weeks and my car has been as cool as ever, not even kicking on the fans. I have an electric fan. Come to think of it, I don't think it has ever kicked on. I wonder if it works... hmmm, anyone know how to check? I have never seen or heard it run. I am driving up to Oregon this weekend, maybe I can check it as I cut through the central valley.

how do you have it hooked up? yours must be set to run of the ignition so it runs all the time., because if it wasnt working in 110 degrees you would know. its been that hot here and my car has been running really hot. the setup is only $30 more than oem fan clutch so i think I will -+give it a try. If you havent noticed any difference that tells me two things. 1 it works 2 it works quietly. you gus are great thanks for the feedback ill post some pics and let ya know how it turned out.

No, I mean I get out and check with the car running and nothing. I think it is on the thermostat cause it says on the fan it may start and stop at anytime. I don't know, I guess it keeps it cool enough that it doesn't run when the car is idoling. The only change I see between summer and winter driving with it is winter there is a line it stays just under, summer driving it runs just over. (Summer being 90 mph over the baker grade running to vegas in 120+temp)
