You have a 1.8T - you do have a knack for sludge buildup, and ANY car will get carbon buildup. Depending on the age, mileage, and care your car has had, you may not see a lot of difference after seafoam, but rest assured, your engine is known for these things.

 

pull off your throttle body and take a look at all the carbon buildup in there, next take a look inside your intake manifold...

 

ive read about the large amount of smoke that is created when sea foaming...which part of the sea foaming creates the smoke? is it the crank case? the vac line or the fuel tank? or all of the above?

Confirm that he is wrong yes. All cars have sludge build up. Seafoam is really good on any car even if nothing is wrong with it. Helps engine run more efficiently. Dealerships do seafoam to all their cars they plan on selling used so it must help someway.I did it to my car and it helps tons. Just pour one bottle in gas tank and half and half between oil and vac lines. search diy u find it.

and you just straight up dump itinto the gas tank???
