First Audi and a few questions!
Thanks!
The noise is the radio pumping to get over the air conditioner when it is on full bore. I don;t think they can do anything about it with the Bose radio, but I will see. I need to take it in Tuesday - for something a tad more serious and will ask opinions here.
Its a 6 speed. When I test drove and first few days shifted like butter. But now, only when not driven for a while - not "cold" but settled, it has problems upshifting from 1st to second and less from 2nd to third. No downshift problems. And not a grind. Just a little ratcheting into gear.
I'm thinking synchros
But maybe just oil level? Or is there an adjustment?
It gets better as the car is driven and after 10 or 15 miles is much better, but still not like it was the first few day.
Any thoughts?
I will be taking it in Tuesday, but would be nice to understand this a bit better if anyone has ideas.
Thanks.

the auto volume adjustment is called GALA, look for a dial on your headunit, it is adjustable. turn the dial all the way to the left and it should disable it or at least minimize it. (more detailed instructions will be in your owner's manual
Well, I don't see it. Its the Bose unit, so no SVC which IS adjustable. This has only the intital level adjustment so it can be set how loud it will come on when the car is started maximum.
If there is another setting or ****, I just can;t find it. The manual says that with Bose it is not adjustable.

i've got bose in my 12V and mine is disabled by pressing turning the GALA dial (secondary function of the treble dial) to the left...maybe they changed it for the newer models so that you can't disable it...personally i don't like GALA, so i turned mine off
Ahhh, I think you have a different radio.
Mine is this one: http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/symphony2.jpg
I'll bet yours is this one: http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/symphony.jpg

I found another board with a discussion of this problem as well. Its now called DNC and seems the only way to adjust is to snip the microphone wire

Just thought I would bring you up to date on the radio. There was actually a tech bulletin on it and it is a mod to the Bose amp that took a bit over a half hour. Stops the pumping all together. Then, even though Audi claims the DNC can not be defeated, there is a VagCom setting under 66 that changes the DNC to SVC. Now works like I would have expected from the factory!
Just dropped back in here as the lumabr support has stopped functiong. Maybe burned out motor? Didn;t see any posts on that so will Google to see what I can find.
