Default Flashing Check Engine Light

From reading this forum I realized that a flashing check engine light indicates a misfire. My mechanic is about 4 miles away; would it be TERRIBLE for me to drive it there with the check engine light flashing and the engine rumbling? Or will it be okay?

3 days ago the check engine light was flashing and then it went solid but the car was running normal, then I drove it yesterday the light was gone and the car was running normal. Drove it around today it was normal, but got in the car this afternoon and the flashing light came back on along with the rumbling.

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Try not to drive it at all until you know what's wrong. If there's an Autozone near you, get it scanned for free and post the engine codes here.

It seems the only reason not to drive it on flashing CEL is so you don't cause more problems/damage if it is a big problem. I had a random cylinder misfire a few weeks ago where the CEL was solid. It would start to flash when I came to a stop and then start flashing. I would give it a little gas and it would stop flashing. I don't know if it was ok to do that, but it didn't cause anymore problems for me.

Flashing check engine light is caused by a misfire. The light flashing indicates further driving could damge the catalytic converter.

Could be anything. The flashing CEL is a warning that the issue could cause damage to the catalytic converter.

You aren't concerned because you will be selling the car soon.

Remind me not to buy a used car from you.

to answer your question cause everyone else missed your question and told you what you already knew, yes it is a misfire, that i know, cause it is the same with all cars, i drove my s-10 for a yr with a misfire cause no one could figure out why compression test was within specs and blah blah blah

now you can drive the 4 miles to you mechanic, yes
