FYI A RECALL ON CONTROL ARMS!!!
GUYS! i have a 96 a4 2.8q and i'm totally new to audis. i've been exploring this forum pretty thoroughly for a few weeks now and i haven't come across any recall info. i made an appointment to have my lower control arms looked at this saturday, since it's a recall, is it free? (i've never dealt with a recall before, sorry) also, i just had one of my tie rod ends replaced and the other probably needs replacing too, if the dealership didn't mention that when they looked up my vin, that means it doesn't apply to my car, right?
Yes a recall action would be provided free by the dealer. Many people are having problems with the dealer though because if you have any aftermarket suspension companants, they are hesitant to replace for free. Your car should be within the scope of the recall as it was for all A4's before 2001 or so.
I actually dont know if they have replaced my control arms in my car. I have been to AUDI dealership about 5 times this year and not once have they mentioned to me anything about this. BTW i own 99 2.8 Quattro. I dont expect them to tell me while I am there, however how would i go about getting the control arms replaced by them for FREE. Do i just call them and tell them I heard about the recall and want them replaced? How does the process work? Do I have to pay for anything (parts or just labour or none)? Also I live in CANADA (Toronto), does the recall apply to here aswell?
My 96 slipped through the net, control arms are dead on it now, called Audi a few weeks back they checked it over, copied my service history then called me back and booked it in. Next Wednesday they're being replaced and i get a courtesy car to!
