You've had this problem for over 6 months now? I'm not sure how to pull the rails, but when you put the seat back in, be sure to use a torque wrench or it becomes a pretty serious safety hazard. Good luck.

to remove driver seat in 96 a4, there is two alan head bolts on the front of the seat, you will see the covers covering them up, remove the caps covering them up either they are press on or are held with phillips screws, once you do that you will see the alan head bolts and remove those 2 bolts, then you will need to slide the seat out from the rails it sits on in the car, remove the plastic caps that cover the rails up they are held on with phillips screws. then just carfully pull seat out to make sure you dont tear carpet or anything.

Ended up doing completely different from any post lol. I took out the front two botls that hold the seat onto the rails, and tilted it up, giving access to the motors. Took out all three and moved the gears manually using the cables and/or a square screwdrive depending on ease of access. i got pics on my buddies camera i'll share just in case anyone does a search later with the same dilema i had.
