How can I rig a FMIC that's not for an A4
To make a long and possibly illegal (j/k) story short lets just say I got my hands on a perfectly good FMIC. I'll post pics as soon as I can but it may be a few days. Dimensions of the core are 24"x2"x9." The intercooler is originally for a twin-turboed diesel (well, I'm 90% sure). I know I'll have to rig a few brackets and the inlet and exit come out on an elbow so i'll have to do something to make them come straight out. My questions are 1.)Can I cut into my original piping and and just clamp the IC on or do i need new piping? 2.)If I need piping where should I look 3.)What goes in place of my original side mount 4.)Is 9" too tall? 5.) And is there anything I should know? Remember, the IC was free and I'd like to get away as cheap as possible, but I really want to make it work. Thanks in advance!
I was going to do that myself before, its not hard at all. All u do if rip off ur bumper, get all ur demensions, make ur brackets to support them. Then have all ur piping bent at 2.0 or 2.25 at a exhaust shop, and re install, just make sure u have u demenions right.
Have which piping bent? The piping on the IC or the original front piping? Also, the piping on the IC is a hard composite material (unbendable) so i may have to have new ends made for the IC. The core is aluminum though. What about the original SMIC?
Pics will be up soon, but someone is bound to know a little more about the issues I may deal with. I found out yesterday that I can have new end caps (inlet/exit) made. This is good because I can have them come striaght out rather than at the 90 degree angle they are now. Also I can move the inlet/exit up or down to help with packaging issues.
The IC piping can not be bent it's not metal. You could've meant have the original piping bent to fit the intercooler. It works both ways. Thanks for your incredible advice though, instalation should be a breeze.
