do you guys know roughly how much it would cost for a ported/polished manifold?

 

Gonna have to do it yourself. Mance did a tutorial on it. Check out Mr D.'s profile in the 12 valve forum (link posted up top).

Mance is a good guy. I've bougt his ported/polished throttle body, bored MAF, and velocity stack. They were good products.

 

I heard on the 30v 2.8s they smoothed out the torque band, and better throttle repsonse. No real hp gains like a 1.8t chip but still seemed worth it.

 

yep i brought my IM and heads down to my local machine shop and quoted my $750 to do an ok job. if i wanted an extensive job it could well cost into the $1000.

btw there is only minimal gain by doing this

 

im thinking about selling it and looking for the 98 2.8........good move? because theres a lot more out there for the engines

 

Good move if you dont take any kind of loss, being that you just purchased the car... Obviously...
Go with the 1.8t and not the 2.8 if you are looking for "a lot more"

 

if you like modding, go with the 1.8t. The 30 valve 2.8s are a little more expensive as well. If you plan on supercharging the 2.8 go with that then cause you'll have a pretty solid and powerfull powerplant. 99.5 is the best year to get for both 1.8t and 2.8.

 

i always thought that the 2.8 was a lot faster...but i guess ill look into a 1.8t...thanks alot guys

 

it's only faster stock and not by too much, the 12v is the most reliable of the engines ive heard and mine is perfect also
