That was my thinking as well. I think youre right, but Audi said that, since its a 7 yr 70,000 warranty due to california's emmissions laws, the broken component must effect emmissions ratings, I guess. But it doesn't say that anywhere in the manual and it seems to me that if the law made it so that Audi had to warranty these parts, it shouldn't matter if I pass smog, the parts are still broken. But I don't know what to do. If they say its not covered, what can I do?

I'd be all over Audi on this. The heck with CA law. It's Audi's product; a product that has failed - under warranty.
Get on Audi of America's regional service rep on this. I'd be on the phone and at my dealer every day.
Just maintain dignity. Be friendly and polite, but be firm and convicted that you are right.
The squeeky wheel gets the grease.

Yeah, you're right Imola. I should try harder to get them to fix it before I start messin with clamps. Who's this regional rep guy? Thanks for all the advice by the way.
