My 2.8 got chipped
I dont think an 18 hp - 19ft/lbs gain is unbelievable... remember, that gain doesn't show itself accross the entire power band... in fact, overall hp might not have gone up 18, but perhaps in that flat spot he spoke of the gains were indeed that high.
You can go from 190 hp to 200 hp... but still see 18 hp gains at lower RPM's. You see what I'm saying?
And that twin turbo job on the 2.8L... the guy posting about it sounded sketchy to say the least. Best to maintain a healthy level of scepticism.

Why is it that everyone seems to take certain statements so damn seriously? I did not claim such large numbers of HP and TQ, that is upsolute. My main goal was to eliminate the "flat spot" that most 2.8 30V's have. this chip has done just that. The chip has created a smooth torque curve from 1500 RPM to 4000 RPM that once did not exist. I have noticed a tremendous amount of TQ while cruising at highway speeds also. My goal was not to obtain some freakish number that a 1.8T would obviously reach. My goal was to add small amounts of TQ and HP at certain crucial points, and that goal has been obtained. Before I bought this car last year, I looked at a 2003 Acura 3.2 TL type-2, a 2003 BMW 325 xi, a 2001 BMW 540i, a 2001 S4 and my 2001 2.8. I chose my car b/c I had always owned acura's and wanted a change of scenery. I chose the Audi over BMW b/c of their superior quattro system and Audi's perfect interior. I chose the 2.8 over the 2.7T b/c I wanted an engine that would cost less to maintain over a 150,000 to 200,000 mile life span. If I wanted speed and performance i would have gone with the S4 or the 540i, but that was not my ultimate goal. I love my 2.8, and if I wanted tons of HP and TQ, I would purchase a S/C. But right now, the chip from upsolute has been F*****ng awsome, and this was why I posted. I do not want the hastle of owning a turbo, but some of us do not mind and thats their choice.

dude everythime you post good things about the 2.8 I regret my 1.8t even more. Im hoping that when I chip my 1.8t it will be as good on the low end as a 2.8 is. If that happens then my wanting of a 2.8 will disapear
Your low end won't improve much... it's just a puny 1.8L until the turbo spools... but when it does start to spool, you may still put to rest your desires for a 2.8L. Chipping a 1.8T is a BIG difference...

so basically you can mod a 1.8T so that in the end,it will have more HP than a 2.8?

yeah I am starting to not want to chip my car anymore. I was thinking a low-mid range turbo like the stocker would give me gobs of mid range power and some low end. But lately with the mass of over posts Im beginning to hear otherwise. but we will see

That's great .. good for him and the butt dyno , and good for you and your 200 posts.
All Im saying is the a chip for a 2.8 DOES NOT give you 18HP and 19TQ .
Just not going to happen , so keep dreaming . If it makes you feel better , then belive it .

Wow that was an uncalled thing to say. He felt something in the butt dyno and said the torque curve is smoother and better and said that its not really a performance chip its more for cleaner performance. Have YOU not learned anything by reading my posts??
ORIGINAL: Dave666
Why ?
Those gains he is talking about are not real .
You dont get even close to 20HP from chipping a 2.8
Maybe 5-8 WHP if you're lucky .
Have you not learned anything yet?

I hope you werent talking about my response. I was very impressed with the gains he stated and now I wish I had been able to find a 2,\.8 over my 1.8t

thanks for the input on a 2.8 chip.i've inquired before specifically to a 2.8 30v'er that has first hand knowledge of performance gain and only got 1 crappy response from a 1.8'er.
