with new processing techniques still developing, ehtanol has been proven to yield almost 80% more energy than gasoline. The idea of ethanol is not power or anything, it's making us not be so dependent for oil.

i'm all for the use of agricultural products like corn and soy and anything to get away from oil.the companies are now gearing for use of this, like making auto body parts out of corn.there could even be a greater % amount of ethanol mix that audi accepts now for their new auto's.i remember a subaru i had said do not use any ethanol fuel.they adapt and change, but not quickly.

then go against what the manufacurer says and use it. you'll be the tester.dont ask for facts and then argue them
I wasn't arguing what the manufacturer says, I was responding to what appeared to be a statement that we will not be using ethanol at all and it wasn't an option in the future. I pretty much expected that I couldnt use it in my car, no need to get harsh about things.

I read somewhere on the forums about adding pure Ethanol to your car's regular fill up, for racing applications. Someone mentioned that you should only fill 1/4 of the tank with Ethanol when you do it though.

Filling up your tank with 85% Ethanol would more than likely **** your **** up... [:@]

well guys, ethanol is probably the start of the future but only a stepping stone so to speak i belive, 1st of all, there is a major need for us to find a plant that does not have food value to get ethanol from, India along with the U.S. and alot of other countries are in the process of trying to find something along these lines so we do not starve countries that rely on aid as the main food items those countries are supplied with is grain, and in general grain alcohol is ethanol not just corn. ethanol yields about 20% less power than that of conventional fuel, its very high octane so its resistance to burn is very high, it is EXTREMELY corrosive therefore cannot be ran in conventional auto's that are not flex fuel desgined, the idea of it working in a conventional gasoline motor is thesible, but it would destroy the fuel lines, fuel pump, gas tank, evaporative emmissions controls, and eventually your engine over time, everything in these flex fuel vehicles is designed for the fuels corrosive properties. personally im excited to see that we are moving in a direction to reduce the dependence on foreign oil. and to those who dont think you can make power with e85, the NHRA has a funny car that runs on just that, so its just a matter of designing engines for the fuel, but to answer the original question in the post, dont run this fuel in your conventional gasoline engine, it will cost you big time in repairs to your vehicle.

VBO5 No way 80% more energy.

Ethanol has 67% of the energy per gallon as gasoline and metanol has half as much as gas.
