and its really difficult to help someone with technical stuff unless we have a head to toe pic of you as well. You never know... This could mean a courtesy house call by plenty of willing members with tools in hand, just ready to fix you up.
This is exactly where mine broke. Here's what happened when I brought it into the dealer:
1. They didn't seem at all surprised by this failure.
2. They had a replacement in stock.
3. They didn't squawk at all about replacing it under warranty
Even though your warranty recently expired, I would bring it back to the dealer and argue it was a pre-existing condition. What I did was show them how much drag there was on the hinge that broke, and argued that the hinge was faulty. If yours is the same then tell them that this is how it was for a few months before it finally broke.
