Default New Audi Buyer Help

Hi everyone,

Recently my 95 BMW was just totaled and now I am looking to buy a 95-97 Audi A4. I used to have an A80 way back in the day and loved it.

I'm really asking what I should look for when buying used?

Price suggestions, at what mileage do most problems occur, what maintenance records do I look for, how much is the regular price to replace of tranny, brakes, tires, u-joints, oil leaks, any other maintenance costs I should be aware of, 1.8t or 2.8 (which has fewer problems), etc., where to look for oil leaks, how much is tire replacement, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, thank you, I did check that out before posting.

Just looking for some more specifics, like what can I expect to replace/fix at 100,000, 125,000, 150,000, etc. Where to look for oil leaks, how much are the major repairs going to run me, etc.

100,000 miles, oil leaks around head gasket, Im guessing as a result of
old age and the psi. Naturally, 2.8 is less problem prone, but 1.8t is more
fun if you plan on tuning. Once you pass a 100,000 miles somethings wear,
my tranny and motor shift as i let in and out of the gas in 1st 2nd 3rd, but not
terrible and that im fixing with the DTS. Make sure your belts
have been changed at some point, or if not then things go wrong. 1.8t needs
synthetic, and must be changed because it builds up sludge more then
the 2.8 . Oh, and i think it was either 96-97 or 97-98 that body styling
or interior was changed quite considerably/

Thanks,

I wasn't planning on tuning or upgrading, just looking for a nice, reliable eye-catching car.

So for over 100,000, make sure the belts have been changed?

How long does the tranny usually last for? Under regular usage, how long do they last?

I am leaning towards the 2.8 for reliability reasons.

How about rotors and brakes? How much usually?

Outside of a blown engine, what are the 5 most expensive things to repair?

If I bought a 125,000-150,000 what maintenance should the seller have already done to it?
