I love everything about my car except the check engine light... it shuts on and off randomly, i had the dealer check it (for free) and they told me it was running lean, a day later no light, the next day light on and during other periods of driving off... grr.[:'(]

Guys, I'm going to get an used GIAC chip off from a '98.5 A4 1.8T Quattro, how do I know if it fits my car? Is it an ECU code or something that I can check? Also, the GIAC chip is good for both Octate 91 & 93 gas right, or do I have check with the seller?
