Default No clutch?

So I 'm driving today coming around a pretty tight turn and go to downshift when my clutch pedal drops to the floor and does not come back up, I coast up a small hill part way into some ones driveway apply hand brake and hazards. When I get out the cars I notice a small metal pin with some sort of clip at one end on the floor of the car, turns out to be the connector pin for my clutch pedal and hydralic actuator. I dont care how old a car may be, something so important should not be able to slip out of place like this did and almost cause a serious accident. Has anyone every experienced a similar situation?

Nope, but then again I have a tiptronic.

I've not had this problem with clutches before, though I have had the slave cylinder fail on my MG.
