beefski meant to say 'if you use synthetic oil there is no returning to regular (mineral) oil...but youre right, you should be using synthetic anyway....i used mobil 1 for a while, just recently switched to royal purple and it seems to burn slower than the mobil 1...get an OE filter from your dealership or online... ecstuning.com has one for a decent price iirc....MANN is the filter you want to buy.
My canned talk.....
Check the battery electrolyte level. If it is low, then top up with distilled water till it is above the lead plates.
Your car now has over 60K miles.
You need to flush the brake fluid every two years. It is hygroscopic (pulls in water). Flushing the system will prevent the calipers from rusting.
Get a turkey baster and pull out as much of the power steering fluid as possible. Refill with fresh Pentosin 11 fluid only. Do not use "power steering fluid or transmission fluid. Do this about every 10K miles, to prevent long-term failure of the PS pump.
Change the transmission fluid/oil, front, center and rear differentials if you have quattro. I do this every 60K or so.
Check your CV boots for cracks
When was your air filter changed last ( change every 30K)
When were you spark plugs last changed? (NGK platinum every 60K)
You are coming close to the time for a timing belt change. Do it no later than 80K miles. At that time change the water pump, accessory belts and front engine seals.
Find someone with a Vagcom and check for codes.
For oil changes, go to ECS tuning and buy a pack of the larger filters and copper washers for the drain plug. Make sure you have the correct size socket and invest 20 bucks in a torque wrench so you don't over torque the plug.
