Default Oil Sludge Warranty

I was searching the forum because my car started ticking when I turn it off.. never happened before. While I was searching I came up on a bunch of threads about oil sludge.

Apparently Audi has an 8 year unlimited mile warranty on oil sludge if you can provide them with proof that you changed your oil during the correct intervals..how does this work for used vehicles that the previous owner never provided reciepts for oil changes.. and what about if I do oil changes myself? I noticed some people with used cars were able to take advantage of the warranty.

Thanks before hand.

If you change the oil yourself your out of luck, if the previous owner doesn't have any receipts either there is nothing you can do. The factory services will be stored in the audi database but that will probably only be up to 50k un-less the previous owner took it to the dealer all the time then there will be records. I would give your service writer your VIN number and see what services have been performed.

I was told that if you provide reciepts for regular oil changes at perfect intervals Audi will still compensate you for the new motor. My source may have been wrong but I sure hope not.

Ticking when you turn off the engine doesn' sound like an oil pressure problem.

Before getting worked up about sludge, why don't you have the oil pressure checked.

If you changed the oil yourself or otherwise and have the reciepts BY LAW you are entitled to warrenty coverage no matter what they say at first.

I never said it was an oil pressure problem. I typed "ticking" in the search, and many of the results were related to oil pressure among other things. I saw a thread asking about the warranty and clicked on it just out of curiosity. I'm asking this question about the warranty just out of curiosity also.. I'm not having any sludge problems and the ticking seems to have stopped on it own tonight, while I was trying to pin point where it was coming from.

Thanks for your help though, if it comes back I'm going to try to figure out exactly where it's coming from and probably get my oil pressure checked if necessary.
