Ok first of all I am not new to german cars, I used to be a regional sales manager at Dinan Engineering (BMW Tuner)

Second, I just had an ignition coil fail and the car would not start!! It was towed to the dealer under the Audi roadside assistance program. The Diagnosis was nothing fuel related, only ignition coil.

 

By the way, where in his post did he ever mention that fuel is not getting to the engine?

Edit: I reread and saw he has that problem also.

Did you try quickly disconnecting the hose to the intake mani and spraying ethanol/starting fluid in there (then putting the intake hose back on quickly) and see if it will fire or start? If so,it isprobablya fuel supply problem. If the fuse is ok, then check: current/voltage to the pump, relay...anddon't disregard a clogged up fuel filter. Itdoesn'thappen oftenonour B5 A4s(from my experience), but maybe you filled up with a dirty tank of gas.

Hint:Avoid filling up agas station if you see the tanker therefilling thetanks that day. Although "filtered" that gasoline will becleaner the next daywhen particles get a chance to settle after being stirred up from filling the underground tanks.

Well if you don't have power at the pump, and the fuse is good, then its a 75% chance the relay is sticking. You can't really diagnose the relay itself because it has so many pins. You can find power bythe pin numbers in the socket of the relay and use a jumper cable across the terminals and see if the fuel pump fires up. Chances are if the fuel pump relay is shot you will either get 20 fault codes or no communication with the electronics, depending on what pins are sticking.
Use a bentley manual to find the relay, it should be in the relaypack under the steering wheel.
