Default Sudden, massive oil leak -- BAD

OK. Its like -10 here, so I warm up the car, start to leave, andabout 3/4 of a mile, the oil light blinking, starts beeping. I go home. About a mile. I check the manual, freak out because it says I should have stopped car automatically. But hey, I was with my kids, and its -10. I am a woman, and I am not gonna be out with twotoddlers in subzero weather.

I exit the car, see the two foot diameter oil leak, and notice the trail of oil that went down my drive. It looks like four horizontal lines (all lined up next to each other) where the oil is leaking in four spots, all next to each other. BY the way, car was running like absolute ****.

I know this car must be towed in for immediate help. Any ideas how bad this might be? I also jumped in my workhorse (Jeep Grand) and followed the oil trail. It went for BLOCKS. HORRIBLE! I had no clue.I am praying for a cracked oil pan, but soemthing about the four lines of oil tells me I am in for some major money.

I had a massive leak and it ended up being the tensioner or somethin. Did a full timing belt change with cam, crank seals and all that.

Most likely you cracked the oil pan or the drain plug is loose.

Hopefully you didn't do too much damage to your engine driving it with no oil pressure.

Have it towed to check the cause of the leak, to check if the engine is siezed. You didn't say whether the engine was running when you got home, but assuming you got home, it was.

wherever it was leaking from it was probably just one spot, like the oil pan, and if you have your belly pan it would leak out the4 ventilation slots/holes. Let us know what happens.

I hope all goes well for you... That sucks.

I had a pretty big leak the day after an oil change, took it back to the place and asked why its leaking now and hasn't in the past and they found out oil/grease was ontop of bar going straight accross, so it just spilled all over... they cleaned it and now I'm oil free.. just happy it wasnt a big issue

Hope yours isn't a big issue either, good luck
