Anybody know the cons of supercharging a 2.8 besides cost, and does the mpg stay the same as long as you drive reasonably?

You'll probably lose a little mpg due to parasitic drag.
Cons - brakes and tires will wear faster due to faster driving
- loss of mpg due to stomping on it
- increased chance of speeding tickets
- now you'll need to buy a boost guage!
Check out www.scaudi.com, there's a bunch of folks running sc's there that can answer all your questions.

The problem with buying a car and making it fast versus buying a fast car to begin with is the resale value. If you spend $8,000 for a supercharger and some other mods on this Audi, I doubt you will ever see a penny of it back. Whereas if you sold your car now and and put $8,000 more towards an S4 or M3, you would be able to recoup a lot of that money back when you're done with it.
I've seen friends throw a lot of money on their project cars, and have been really disappointed with what they get when it's time to sell the car. You might get lucky and find another enthusiast whose willing to pay top dollar for your car, but this is rare.
A common situation is someone who buys a regular Mustang GT that they would like to have the performance of a Mustang Cobra, and they go to all lengths to supercharge it, and add all the other goodies. In the end, it would have been cheaper for them to have just gone ahead and bought a Cobra to begin with, and they have been able to get a much higher value for a Cobra than a Mustang Gt with $8,000 worth of mods.
I also have also fallen into the trap at throwing money at cars I know I will never get back, I just tell myself that this is money I'm not ever going to see again and it's just a hobby, like golf. It's not a big deal when it's only a few thousand, but its something worth considering before you take the plunge.
