Think I got screwed...
Just bought my first Audi!! Picked up a 2001 A4 2.8L, with about 62k on it. I've put about 4k highway miles on it in about 5 weeks, and there has been a developing hum from the rear of the car. Turns out that BOTH rear wheel bearings are shot. Is this typical? To my knowledge the dealership won't cover it because it is past the 60day, 2,500mi warranty.

I wouldnt say screwed.. but did you have the car checked before you bought it? somebody would have been able to hear this with a stethascope

When you buy a used car, you buy someone elses problems.
Buy the rear bearing kit from ECS tuning and install. As long as you are going to be working back there, you might want to check the rear brakes, and if they have little pad left replace them while you are working in the region.

Well I guess my real question is how typical is this problem? I understand that issues of all sorts can arise when you purchase a used vehicle, but should both rear bearings really go so soon on an Audi (under 70k miles) and should they both wear out at the same time? seems awfully troublesome...
Aside from that, the car is soo pimptastic! Girls love this thing....as Ferris Bueller said: " Its soo choice, if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up"

Well, the right one has the same mileage as the left one, so yes, they could go out at about the same time.
Do you have original size wheels, or have they been "supersized". That will put a lot of additional stress on the suspension especially the bearings.
