Tire shredding issue...
What I would suggest doing is this... On your next scheduled maintenance mention your problem to the mechanic... Have him take a look to see if there are any issues... If there are you would want to get steering issues taking care of accordingly because of the cause and effect it can have on other parts down the road... Let us know what he says on here and we'll let you know if he's full of ****
There are only two things that will affect the sidewall of a tire (provided that they are speed rated for your driving) tire pressure and alignment. If you have the correct pressure, 40 psi for low pros, and a current alignment and they still shred then it is a manufacturers defect. In that case take them back and the tire shop will replace them.
Thanks again for the heads up. I will keep that in mind. I'm torn b/w the Falkens and Avon Techs. I'm looking to do an all season tire and I might just take some pictures of the shredding. Its just along the corner of the sidewall and the tread. It basically looks like my cornering and the low psi has caused the side wall to roll a bit along turns and rough up the outter most edge of the sidewall/tread. Grip has improved since I moved it up to 40 psi and I'm going to put a new set of tires on by this fall. I only have like 12k on these tires. I'll probably pumping you guys for information as I get closer to my top three choices in tires.
Thanks for all the help!

Ok take a picture.
But from what you have described, I would say you are probably ok, as long as you keep inflated.
I know what you mean by the edges shredding, and its probably due to underinflation. Here's what I would do...take a razor knife or similar, and carefully trim off any loose pieces if there are any, and keep an eye on it from there.
If you can take a close up pic, that should give us a better idea of how bad it is.

I had a similar problem, and it was due to underinflation. I'm running 17" SportContact2's at 34psi, although now I'm wondering if I shouldn't pump that up to 40psi (pun intended). I was getting my car washed one day and some guy approached me as I was starting up my car to say that my tire pressure looked extremely low, even though visually everything appeared fine. What do you know, I was at 18-22psi on each tire....OUCH! I must have been driving around like that for about 2 months....OUCH! As a result, the outer edges of the tires are somewhat rounded-off, but I managed to spare myself from needing to replace the set.
What I have learned: check your tire pressure every time you refuel. I will NEVER let this happen again.
