Default tranny issues urgernt

i have 2001 a4 1.8t quattro tip
i have a problem with the tranny, when i put into gear they’re is a loud noise. once in a while they’re is a jerk going from 4th to 5th. some times it feels like the car is dying in first maybe because there’s a bit of water in my cone because of recent rains that could be causing the first gear issue (dropping rpm's fix it with the throttle)

my question
What is this that im experiencing?
Can it be fixed by doing a atf fluid change?
What would have causes this?

Im scared to drive so i don’t cause more damage if they’re is damage

please help me i need to get to work and to school and don’t need to loose my car do something i could have done to prevent failure

i would do a tranny flush if you have not done one in a while i have a manual and i had an issue with it not wanting to go into first or second easy so i had the tranny fluid change with royal purples syn-gear and it goes into gear like a hot knife though butter and on my wifes camry which is an auto it started to slipp alittle so i had it flushed and filled with royal purples max gear and it was like a whole nother car after, so i would try that and see if it takes care of you problem

There was no 2001 CVT - only 2002+.

Could be a lot of problems.

Find someone with a real vagcom and check for codes both in the engine and transmission.

You don't mention how many miles on the car.

If you are truly having transmission problems, dropping the pan and changing the filter and fluid isn't going to hurt.

Check fault codes as david9999 said.
The three most common problems you're gonna find is the fluid is old and is messing with the valve body shifting gears and or clutch packs.
The TCM or tranny wiring harness has a short.
Lastly the torque converter clutch is sticking/ and or stuck open.
The last two most likely will throw a fault code though.
