Default trans problem

Ok heres the prob my car was running strong until i changed the oil..... All i did was drain the oil new filter and new oil..... welll when i started my car and tried to take it around the block the trans was slipping real bad.... Now i didnt touch anything under the car but the oil pan plug and the oil filter..... Another thing i was told by a few people that the ca can take up to 8 quarts of oil..... I have a A4 2.8 AWD ... but i only put in 5 quarts can that be the problem with the trans or is it just shot to $hit and i need a new one? Please help need to know soon....... Thanks

Dry fill for the engine is 5.5 US Quarts.

Check to see that there are no loose connections or wires that you disturbed.

I'm making the assumption that you didn't accidentally pull the transmission drain plug and drain the automatic transmission fluid instead of the oil.

From your question asking if you needed to add 8 quarts of oil, it sounds like this is the first time you changed the oil on this car.

Did you mix up the transmission drain plug with the oil pan drain plug? The transmission fluid, is, I believe, honey colored.

Have you checked the oil level after you put in 5 quarts of oil? If the dipstick is WAY over the top, I'd make the assumption that you added 5 quarts of oil on top of the 5 quarts already in the engine, and that your transmission problem is due to lack of transmission fluid.

If there is too much oil in the engine as measured by the dipstick, do not drive the car until you have drained out the extra oil. Otherwise you will need to fix your engine.

The 2.8 has a little over a 4 quart capacity. 4.2 I think. Check the tranny fluid and see what your levels are before you drive it again and post your results.
