I have a 1996 A4 2.8L 5-spd (not a Quattro). I just bought it and the previous owner had the clutch replaced a few hundred miles ago. It grinds a bit going into 4th and occasionally takes fits of sticking going into and out of 2nd gear. The Audi garage that did the clutch replacement says I need to replace the transmission. What does anybody think?

If I do replace, what do you think it might cost for a rebuilt transmission installed?

Did you take it to an Audi dealer or just a Euro repair shop?

 

if you do have to replace the tranny.. shop around some people in here should have some links or contacts for trannys pretty cheap.. and if possible DIY

 

I took it to a Euro repair shop. DIY is definitely out of the question.
