like the post says, where my odometer is, when i turn my car on, it flashes 'oil' for about 2 min's, then goes back to the odometer.

My first guess would be the obvious, 'i need oil' but i recently got an oil change, and i checked again, and yep, i do have oil.

What does this mean? thanks.

The instrument cluster is programed to display "oil" after a certain amount of miles. Since you have a 97 you have to go to the dealer to have it reset, or buy a VAG-Com and do it yourself.

yeah - simply a preset reminder for an oil change.

my 2001 A4 2.8 Quattro had this right after I changed the oil the 1st time... Kept blinking until I changed it again using a high quality oil filter.
The 1st time was just a Fram filter which are junk as far as build and filter quality. (Youtube it) Have had no issues as long as I keep a good filter and synthetic oil.
If you use "conventional oil" you will have the sludge build up and have to flush the engine quite often. (Known Audi V6 issue)
