What do you mean by pulling it in and out? I got the tilting part.....Also i discovered something different today. When i turn the wheel and it whines, i can hear som tension in the right rear of th car near the wheel. Its sounds as if like when you over tighten a bolt it makes thats "stressed" sound?

 

You don't say what year you have, but many/most years have tilt AND telescopic steering (ie the steering wheel can be moved closer or farther away as well as tilting up and down.

 

i've got the 99.5, i only have tilt.

 

i have a similar problem with my Audi A6 2000 model. Could you tell me what you did to fix that noise?
