2003 A6 Signal Lights
Hi All,
My signal light won't turn on. A few days ago they used to flicker 3/4 times and would stop, but now I have hard time even turning them on. It does come on once in a while with only one flicker. This is on both left and right signal. When I turn the emergency lights on, they are fine. I have checked the fuses. They look good. Please advise.

Hi Manindra,
It sounds as if your hazard switch has gone out. This is the switch in the center stack with the red triangle and controls the emergency flashers. It also acts as the relay for your signal indicators. If you get another switch and replace the faulty one in your car all should be back to normal.
Good Luck with it!

Thank you Twinturboc5. The signals work when I turn the hazard (emergency) lights on. It is just when I turn the signal lights on. If I change the relay, how much do you think it will cost? Are you talking about the fuse box relay?
Thank you for your reply.
Thank you for your reply.

Hi again Manindra,
The part you should replace is the actual "Hazard Flasher Switch". It includes the flasher relay as a part of the switch. The switch can vary in price depending on where you but it, but should cost between $30 and $70. I'm going to include a web address for a parts supplier I've used in the past...very good merchant. I hope this helps

Hi Twinturboc5,
Thank You very much for the reply. I just bought the flasher. You have been very helpful. I have never installed any electrical parts except stereo in my other car. Does anyone know how to install it? Do I need to take the center console out. If so how do I do it?
Thank You very much.

Hi Manindra,
You're very welcome...I'm glad I could help. The switch is fairly easy to install. You'll need to remove (pop off), the trim surrounding the switch. Trim is located just below the two center A/C vents. Pry it gently from one of the lower corners using a small screwdriver or something similar. You'll probably want to cover the tip of the pry tool with a cloth of some kind to prevent any scratching of the trim.
Once thats done, you'll need to do the same around the switch itself to loosen the tabs which secure it to the opening in the dash. Refer to the new switch and you'll see the tabs I'm refering to located on it. After its out, you simply unplug the connector located on its rear housing and swap the parts. After the new switch is connected, you should test the signal lights to ensure the are working before you start reassembly. Install all other parts in the reverse order of the disassembly. Good Luck with it, and enjoy the feeling of satisfaction for a job well done and hard earned money you saved!!
