Question 2004 A6 power steering pump noise

I recently had the timing belt replaced on my car and about a week afterwards the pump started making noise. The fluid is full and the mechanic thinks the pump is going bad, of course. A motorhead friend of mine told me to turn the wheel lock to lock and let it sit for a few days, to get the air out of the system(i was seeing some bubbles is the fluid). This worked for a bit but the noise is back now. The weird thing is it comes and goes and seems louder when I turn to the left. It seems louder on cold days, but sometimes its quiet and the wheel feels the same like its working. Anyone have any thoughts on this one...

Maybe the hoses in/out the pump are getting old & cracked that let air leaks into the p/s fluid ...

When doing the TB work, did you take the pump entirely out?
(Disregard the "personal" aim of the question if you had the TB done BY THE MECH)

You definitely got some air pockets in, and your friend gave you the right solution. Go ahead and repeat the process, you still got air in the system.
Also, it may not hurt to replace/renew the fluid.
Your car is too "new" to have the pump already go out.

Do a search on power steering. I recall more than one person having issues with the PS line seals allowing a bit of air past them. Sounds just like your issue.
