4.2 info
Hello all,
Long time Audi owner, but fairly new to the forum
I recently purchased a b5 avant to make it easier to transport my wheelchair around. Honestly The b5 platform just isn't doing it for me and I thing I am going to return to the A6. I would love it if the A6 avant came with another engine option...the 2.8 in my opinion is boring, and the lack of mods for it makes it even worse.
To my question:
I like the styling of the A6 with the 4.2 engine. I know there are tons of posts on here from people asking about adding turbos to the 4.2
Since the RS6 is a 4.2 with twin turbo's, What is the major difference with the two 4.2 engines? Or is it a question of having problems with the different completely ECU's? I know the easy solution would be to just go out and buy an RS6 but I have found a great deal on a very nice A6 with a 4.2 Actually I found someone who is willing to trade my B5 avant for their 4.2 A6. Are the blocks and heads completely different between the two? If it is just the heads I have no problem changing the heads and intake, if the bottom end is fairly similar.
Also, How is the tranny in the A6 4.2...Can it handle more horsepower and torque?
Thirdly I would be willing to talk to anyone that would like to trade my B5 2.8 for their RS6(lol)
Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated

RE: 4.2 info
Heres a nice vid of manual 4.2. The guy did it custom himself. I think he sold the car though.

RE: 4.2 info
I have a 6 speed 4.2. But in the end the trans in the A6 4.2 is quite stout. As for the motor differences between the A6 and the RS6 there are too many differences to name. In the end there have been huge advancements in the 4.2 development.
here is a link to show how tuning and a few bolt ons can start to level the playing field with even the 2.7....note is is actually a 4.2 compilation video with a race at the end.

Also clink on the link in my sig and you can see my car.
in the end it would be a hugh expencive under taking to make the A6 twin turbo. IMHO you would spend less money if you just bought a RS6
