Default ambient air/heater issues

I appreciate all the info posted here and have searched for a similar problem but havent found anything........

2000 A6 Quattro 2.8l the ambient air display on the lcd dash panel stopped working, or at least it doesnt display anything and the heater now only blows luke warm air on high or low, doesnt seem to matter. Are they related? Thanks

From all the info on the forum I read over time, I doubt your two issues are related.

For the lcd display - you may need a new one or you can pull yours out and check the PCB for broken soldering connections.

As far as the heat - it could be several things. Maybe the thermostat is bad. Maybe the hot coolant doesn't reach your heater core due to an air pocket in the lines, or maybe the heater core is plugged.
Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome.....the other displays on the LCD work, stereo, shifter, mpg..its just the air temp that stopped working. Could there be a sensor or sending unit gone bad? What is the PCB?

When I changed my sparkplugs I did place the coolant resevoir off to the side with a hose disconnected, maybe that created an air pocket? Both problems seemed to happen at the same time which is why I thought they may be related.

Would an air pocket cause the AC not to work as well?

you didnt cause an air pocket and that wont affect the ac. That would affect the cars temp though. Is the economy button on in the ac head. If it is can you turn it off. If not the systems charge is too low and you prob. have a leak some place.

also the thermomoter is located in front of the radiator on the lower side. You can start there and trace the connection wire back.

Thanks....the heater blows the same temp air no matter what temp setting its on. The eng coolant gauge reads normal. The "economy" setting is off....I guess Im lucky it happened now, dont really need the heat or AC in the spring.

Still would like to know why the ambient air display quit, Ive hit the reset buttom many times. Is there a way to test the sensor or just replace?
