If it smells sweet, it's coolant. And if it's coming from your "timing belt," it's probably your water pump. My car had a slow leak that exploded into *****-to-the wall steam and it wouldn't hold coolant for ****. I was planning on replacing my timing belt so I pulled it into the garage and put it in service mode and found out my water pump gasket was completely shot. It's tough to check but if its the same problem it will eventually start steaming and won't hold any coolant at all.
