Default Battery Replacement - 2005 A6

Hello all -
Long time reader, first time poster..
I just got back from a work trip to Korea that I ended up being at for 3 weeks longer than expected. When I got back, I went to unlock my car and my key fob kept blinking red and didn't do anything. So, I unlocked the car manually (only the driver door) and attempted to turn the ignition and got nothing - not even dash lights. I'm assuming the battery is completely dead (the car has been in extreme Illinois heat for the last 1.5 months and I've heard this can cause the battery to die). I attempted to jump the battery but to no avail. I plan on replacing the battery myself and was wondering if anyone knew of any how-to guides for this? Also, another problem is that once I attempted to start the vehicle the first time, the key got locked in the ignition. I'm unable to get the key out no matter how hard I try (seriously, it's like the sword in the stone). Has anybody ever heard of this? I'm also unable to lock the vehicle or pop the trunk (no electronics). Any help on the battery, key, or any advice in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Nothing at all? Well.. That's disheartening.

since the battery was totally flat I would try charging it, instead of just trying to jump start it, or if you want leave the cars connected for a while so the battery has some time to build up a charge before trying to start it. Your key issue may be related to having a completely flat battery, maybe with the charger on it or jumper cables on it you could remove it. If it is the original battery you might just go ahead and replace it...
