Default breather hose

I have a '98 A6 2.8 and I'm planning to replace the breather hose because I have an oil leak and the hose looks very bad - seems like it was repaired with tape at some point. I'm sure it's clogged up because there's oil residue on the repaired parts of the hose.

Do I need both of these parts? :

I have read the write up at http://www.passatworld.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=191705

...which I am sure is the same engine even though it's a VW Passat. But it doesn't seem to mention that second hose attachment.

Anyone know if I should replace both parts?

You can use any other type of hose that fits... like heater hose. Lots cheaper and last longer...
