Question C6 Battery Issue

Hey All,

I recently took my 2005 A6 to a local dealer for an oil change. At the same time, they performed a recall service (24K8) for the ECU. After about an hour of driving after picking the car up, I got a "Battery Level Low" error message, and sure enough, the indicator on the MMI showed the battery level at 10%. Prior to this oil change etc., I had no trouble with the battery. The car has 68k miles on it, and the battery is original. After taking the car back, the dealer said that the service he performed and the now faulty battery are unrelated, and he recommended putting a new battery in ($250)

So basically I want to know if this is, in fact, a coincidence, or if this recall service messed something up within the power management system of the car. I'm guessing that $250 is standard for a battery replacement?

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks,
Nick

Although I have no idea what an ECU upgrade entails, I would say that maybe the battery lost juice while they had their software system hooked to the car.
When I first installed the VAgCom about a month back, I scanned the car for about 2 hours. That drained my battery... How long did you have to wait for all of your servicing, including the upgrade?

Maybe indeed you have a bad battery, but I would first get a charge in it and see if it reverts back to normal operation before spending money on a new one, just because they said you need one.
Secondly, have it checked for free at AutoZone, AdvanceAutoParts or the likes, and if you have indeed a bad battery do yourself a favor and replace it yourself. There's no reason you should pay $ 100-150 more than you suppose to for a battery.

LOL don't listen to aliyork Listen to chefro --

Charge the battery and have Autozone do a load test -
They can check the alternator at the same time
If the battery is bad get one from them for about $100
In most cases they will put it in for you.
Just make sure you have the code for the radio if your vehicle requires it.

Thanks guys. I ended up getting pretty much stuck having to put it in. Tried to talk the guy down -- he said $250 WAS a discounted price, and that 300-350 was what they generally charged. It wasn't worth arguing about.
