I was on my way to work today and got off the interstate and was slowing down. As I neared the stop sign, I felt a faint thump and the car went off...no warning, nothing out of the ordinary.

Took me a second to realize what had happened so I steered off to the side of the road. I waited there for a minute or two and tried to start the car back up. It didn't start on the first try, but on the 2nd or 3rd it started right back up and drove the rest of the way to work with no problems...no CEL...

1998 A6 2.8 30v

Anyone have any idea what this could be or where to start?

 

might want to pull the spark plugs, see if they're ok/clean
