Here are my 2 cents on this topic....

The A6 is a more gentleman's car. You can still see A4's with a 1.8T being modded by young kids. No so much the case with A6's. You're not in Europe where a smaller Audi would be more suitable.

Getting an Audi that's not a Quattro is like getting Fish without Chips. It just doesn't sound right.

Have fun whatever you get....

I'd say go with the 2.7T. I own an A6 2.8, but I would have gone for a 2.7T if I wasn't only 22 and unable to afford the additional maintenace involved with a turbo'd vehicle.

A nice 04 2.7T would do you nice. All the same technology as the most advanced of cars out, tuning options up the ying yang, great aesthetic/unique value, comfort, reliability, and cost. All pluses compared to your other option of buying a new A6 and missing out on the tuning ability as well as the unique aspect of having a tuned Audi that still seats 5 comfortablyor is able to fit a damn snowbard or 3 (I did it this weekend) into it if need.

How come no one is talking about the 2002 3.0 engine? I'm looking at buying a friends 2002 a6 3.0 awd and I can't find any performance parts for this 3.0 engine. Is it a problematic engine? I would appreciate some feedback with this before I make a mistake buying a 3.0. I don't want to build a rocketship, just lower it with some nice wheels and maybe a cold air intake and free flow exhaust to try to increase the mileage and maybe pick up a few hp as well. Thanks in advance for the feedback. Happy New Year.
