Default help with maf sensor?

hi ppl
i have a a6 1.8t (2000)
my car has been running a little lumpy and not accelerating too well on the odd occassion. so i looked under bonet and seen that i have a split pipe on a breather pipe. i have recently changed the split corner peice of breather pipe. but it seems that its running more lumpy than ever and now at tick over when cold it a bit erratic. i have heard that this could be maf sensor - but seems coincidence that a split pipe and maf happened same time?
can anyone give me any info as to where the maf sensor is to clean it maybe? or replace it?
regards

The MAF is located just behind your airbox. It should be inside a black plastic housing. At most auto part stores you can pick up a box of MAF cleaner to clean it.

The MAF cleaner is a good start, something else to consider is if there is air turbulence going over the MAF it wont read properly and could give similar issues. I have a 3.0 so not certain about that intake setup but something to consider.

There could be specifics that are outside our knowledge as the engine is 1.8T on A6...
Good start is to read the DTC - any reader would be capable to handle the MIL as well.

whoa, good catch. Do you think an a6 or an s4 with a 1.8 or 2.0 with big turbo setup would be a cool build? Some big weight loss with a 4 cylinder.
