the car has 97k and is a 2000, looks and seems to run well. However In my research of the car I was advised that the vehicle was last seen at the dealership for a driveability issue, check engine light. The service advised that there maybe a torque converter issue and the work didn't appear to have been completed. Mayeb the old owner sold it before having the work completed?

I know the timing belt and water pump was completed at 76k. they're asking 10,900. for the car.

Is this a big issue? what would you advise? any opinions would be greatly appreciated

Well I have a 2002 a6 2.7 and I would advise you to run the other way. Without a warranty, the Audi is not a good value. Great comfortable vehicles, but pricey to maintain! Thats my 2 cents.. Good luck with your decision.

 

All depends on how you shop/buy. I bought a 2001 with 28k miles for $21.9k. Original sticker was over $46k. Strikes me as a pretty impressive value for a car that's just out of break-in. They do have more issues than a Lexus but I don't know if you'll find too many people on this forum who would trade the performance and luxury of an A6 for a Lexus. The reliability of these cars is OK. Not great, but not awful. If you take it to the dealer for everything and it's out of warranty, it will cost you big time. If you're inclined to tackle some things yourself and can find a good independent in your areas, you can offset a LOT of these costs.

So, one person says no. I say go for it. Just make sure you shop it well. How do you do that? Read the forum. Go back though the posts here and you'll find LOTS of discussion of this issue. Happy reading!
