Just purchased an A6. Should I buy a 3 yr warranty?
Okay I read about this more and decided the warranty isn't really for me. Consumer reports and forbes said that most drivers never actually get anything out of their warranty because the provider always tries to get around stuff. For example, one site said if your engine overheats and breaks they might not replace it if it was a broken fan that caused the problem.
I will only be putting around 5K - 7K miles a year on the car and it has around 68K so I don't think I would be using the warranty to its full potential anyways.
Thanks for the help btw.

your choice but know that with the CE you picked, you will experience more problems than withths averAge mentionedin the survey and they are very expensive to maintain and fix. Also soMe warranties are better than others. If you elect not to get one, I am afraid you might regret it but at least stash the money away as if you were buying it in case somethin happens.
@Formulagigi - I already have the money for the warranty and I would definitely be saving it if something goes wrong. The main problem that I see with the dealers warranty is that I'm really not sure what exactly they cover as I know some dealers try to get away with repairing your car and I would rather just pay then fight about it for a few weeks to get "x" part replaced.
I'm also about thinking of doing what one user recommended and putting the money away and earn interest on it and then pay as needed. I'm also sort of lucky as the one mechanic that my family has been going to for awhile has a guy there that just sold his jetta for an older A6 so hopefully he can help me out if I run into problems.

Okay I read about the warranty company (Continental Warranty) and they have a pretty sketchy record of not covering everything so I believe that I am going to stay away from them and pay for anything that happens myself or buy from another company.
@Rhino - My A6 looks exactly like yours 0_0 (is yours manual).
Sorry for asking so much about this guys.

I bought a 2004 A6 2.7T with 16000 miles on it last year and debated the same question. Ended up buying the 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty that kicks in after the factory warranty ends.
As luck would have it, about 2 weeks after the factory warranty ended, I needed a new torque convertor. Ended up costing me $500 (labor differential and new vs. rebuilt TC cost) instead of about $3000 - the warranty covered $2500, so I've already used more than the cost and still have a 50,000 mile warranty remaining.
